Carnival celebrations, held during the traditional week-long Mardi Gras period that ends on Ash Wednesday, feature costume parades, dancing, music and other festivities. The Fête des Cuisinières (Festival of Women Cooks) is held in Pointe-à-Pitre in early August. Women in Creole dress, carrying baskets of traditional foods, parade through the streets to the cathedral where they are blessed by the bishop. The parade is followed by a banquet and dancing. Also in early August is the Tour Cycliste de la Guadeloupe , a 10-day international cycling race. Visas are not required of citizens of the US, Canada, Australia or the European Union. Citizens of the EU need an official identity card, passport or valid French carte de séjour . Citizens of most other foreign countries need a valid passport and visa for France. All visitors officially require a return or onward ticket.

Mini crique Guadeloupe is justifiably proud of its spectacular beaches, many of which are well sheltered and ideal for swimming. The natural beaches, all beautiful to behold, range from the long white stretches. As is true with clothing-optional beaches everywhere, women should not arrive alone. Topless sunning and swimming is more common at hotels than on village beaches. Take your cue from how the locals are dressed.
guadeloupe, pointe-a-pitre, shopping Parc National de la Guadeloupe this national park makes for a great drive and/ or hike through orchid-filled rainforests and fern-covered hillsides. Maison de la Forêt, in the middle of the park at the very centre of Basse-Terre, has an exhibit centre with bueatiful displays on the forest. The large forest reserve is bisected by the Route de la Traversée, a lovely mountain drive that passes thick bamboo stands, enormous mahogany and gum trees, heliconia and ginger. Cascade aux Ecrevisses, a jungle waterfall in the centre of the park, is worth a visit.

Guadaloupe has excellent conditions for Sailing, Surfing, Snorkeling and Diving, Windsurfing, Parasailing, and more. With the same tradewinds as the rest of the Carribean and Winter season is the best. You can sail in Saint-Francois where there is mostly flat water sailing for speed and is an awesome spot for everyone from beginners to experts..

Guadeloupe - where is the flash???? Guadeloupe has excellent nightspots, including discos and nightclubs and a variety of piano and jazz bars. Some hotels offer dinner and dancing and Live Music by folkloric groups. The popular dance music is Zouk, created in Guadeloupe and performed regularly by many local groups. Nightlife is most plentiful can be found throughout the island.There are two casinos on Guadeloupe, one in Gosier and the other in St. François. Casinos offer blackjack and American roulette in the game rooms. Slot machines are located outside the game room entrances.
