List of Interesting Places

Hot Springs
Reputed as the oldest thermal baths of the Americas and famous for its therapeutical properties..In Puerto Rico, thermal waters have been found in several locations throughout the island. However, the hot springs of Coamo are the most important ones because they are the oldest, the hottest, most accessible and the first and only ones with a hotel in all of Puerto Rico.
The temperature of its waters is 44 degrees Celsius (110 degrees Fahrenheit). The origin of the heat and dissolved minerals comes from the way the water lowers to 1.7 to 2 Km in depth. It should also be noted that the healing powers of the thermal waters of Coamo are attributed to the minerals found in them.

The native Indians were the first ones to enjoy the thermal waters of Coamo. Pethrogliphics found in the environs proof this theory and the existence of an indigenous town in the area.

During the Spanish colonization in the 1500’s, many writers included the hot springs in their works. By 1847 they were known as the Baths of Saratoga and by 1857 the first hotel was inaugurated which stayed open until 1958 when it closed its doors for 18 years.

In 1974, thanks to the efforts of several Puerto Ricans leaders, construction of a new hotel began conserving its original design. The old thermal water pools were preserved and a new cold water pool was added to the facilities. Finally, in 1976 the new facilities were inaugurated under the administration of the current owner, Don Antonio Umpiere Amy.

Today, The Coamo Hot Springs Hotel offers a solid balance between its beautiful facilities and the majestic environment that surrounds the place. All this converts The Hot Springs of Coamo into an excellent alternative to enjoy your vacation.

People say that these waters have natural curative powers.
