Bio-luminescent Bay
You wont believe it !
Hidden along the Caribbean coast is one of the most spectacular Bioluminescent Bays or Phosphorescent Bays in the world. The mysterious blue-green light is created by micro-organisms (dinoflagellates) which thrive in an environment uniquely suited to their needs. A trip into the bay is a magical experience. Fish flash by in dark water, and swimming is like floating through a glow in the dark picture.
Nature lovers will not want to miss the phenomenal experience of visiting a tropical phosphorescent bay!
The phosphorescence is actually bioluminescence generated by microscopic organisms in the water. It is believed to be part of a natural defense system triggered by the movement of predators. Many scientists believe the tiny organisms light up so their predators can see more desirable prey – and thus leave them alone.
The phenomenon occurs sparadically in warm seas around the world, but Puerto Rico is one of the only places on the planet where you can depend on it every evening. The three most spectacular bays are La Parguera, Mosquito Bay and in Fajardo. We can arrange kayaking trips in any of these locations. Fajardo is the Most FUN...

BIO-Angel......It Is Spectacular !!!!

What People are Saying
"Chris, Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I just found your email address in my inbox. We had a great time at the bio-bay. We loved the kayaking....it was beautiful.....It was a great experience. We loved how we were able to swim in it and see the "glow". I especially liked how the tour guide took us to the part of the bay where the fish are. As we were kayaking over to that side, we were able to see what appears to look like "lightening streaks" going across the water. The tour guide told us that they were fish....it was great. The tour guide was very informative. Thanks again for all your help. -Christine"
Bioluminescence is simply light produced by a chemical reaction which originates in an organism.
It can be expected anytime and in any region or depth in the sea. Its most common occurrence to the sailor is in the often brilliantly luminescent bow wave or wake of a surface ship. In these instances the causal organisms are almost always dinoflagellates, single-cell algae, often numbering many hundreds per liter. They are mechanically excited to produce light by the ship's passage or even by the movement of porpoises and smaller fish. The deep-sea fish Aristostomias has more than one light organ. Bioluminescent Bay trips . We will pick you up at the Hotel and it is a nice drive over to the East side of the island passing through Loquillo beach area and by the Rainforest.
The trip starts off at the beach where we board our Kayaks and get a short safety talk and head out through the channel. Your guide explains the miracle of the Bio-Bay as you slowly make your way through the mango trees for a short kayak into the Bay. Once you enter the bay you will know it...The next couple hours are spent exploring the wonders of the bay and experimenting with the Phosphorescent as you "Slash and Play in the Bay" Our guides are very good at showing visitors how to have a great time (and stay safe). After doing a few more Bio-Angels and after taking a quick swim we head back to the beach for some Piña Coladas and beverages (including soda and water) to say "WOW" with the rest of the group. We depart shortly after with fond memories (and some cool pic's) The Bio-Bay is especially nice this year because of new DNR regulations to ensure the protection of one of the most incredible and unique sights in the world.
Looking forward to showing you...
